New children admitted to the Rescue Center

ANGELITA

She is 14 months old and weighs 18 pounds.   Her mama left her at her papa’s  house and they have not seen the mama in months.  Her papa is a moto driver but is unable to care for her.  He lives at home with his mama and she has been her primary care giver.   Both parents were young and this was their first child.  She lived in a 2 rooms home with 5 others made of bricks and tin.  The family does not have running water in their home or a flush toilet but do have an outhouse.  She has been swollen with kwashiorkor for just a few days now.  This past week she ate meat twice, had yams and potatoes several times and drank juice each day.  Her grandma tells us she loves meat.   She was on the F-75 therapeutic milk for several days and then began on the medika mamba.

ETINA

She is 20 months old and weighs 17 pounds.  Her mother has not been well for several months with some mental health issues and her primary care giver has been her grandma.  The family of 6 live in a 1 room home made from tarps and tin.  They do not have running water at their home but do have an outhouse.  Her grandma tells us she has been sick for many months.  Her hair has turned brittle and is falling out.  Her skin is breaking down and open is several areas.    This past week she had 1 eggs, chicken twice, coffee several times and juice.  Her grandma tells us she has been passing lots of worms as well.  She was referred to us by some new friends at Bread to the Nations.  They have started an outpatient medika mamba program in their area and felt she was to severe to follow in their program and needed in patient care.  We started her on the F-75 therapeutic milk and then graduated her to the medika mamba.  She is doing well on it and we are hopeful she will continue to gain weight.

 YVENS

He is 22 days old and weighs 8 pounds 8 ounces.  His mama comes to our clinic often.  She is HIV positive and also has some severe mental health issues.  After Yvens was born his family did their best to have mama care for him.  But each time she was near him she become violent toward him.  His father, who is also HIV positive came and asked us to help care for him.  He plans to seek help for Yvens mama.  His dad has gardens that produce corn, grains and beans.  They live in a 3 room home with 4 others made of brick and tin.  They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet, but do have an outhouse.

FEDLINE

She is 5 years old and weighs 30 pounds.  This is her first time with kwashiorkor.  She does not have an appetite to eat much.  This past week she had spaghetti 4 times, coffee 3 times and rice and corn 2 times.  Her family of 5 lives in a 3 room home made of rocks, dirt and tin.  They do not have running water at their home, a flush toilet or even an outhouse.  Her parents both work in their garden and produce beans and corn.  She started out on the F-75 therapeutic milk and was graduated to the medika mamba a few days later.

ENELSON

He is 4 months old and weighs 7 pounds 14 ounces.  He mom just found out recently that she was TB positive.  She was on her way to the clinic a few weeks ago and died on the path here.  This was her only child.  Enelson’s papa has gardens with watermelons, beans and corn.  There are 2 family members that live in a 3 room home made of rocks and tin.  They do not have running water at their home or a flush toilet, they do have an outhouse.  We have not met his father yet, but it was a neighbor that brought him down to the clinic to ask for help in his care.

JESULA

This little cutie is just a few weeks old and weighs 5 pounds.  She was brought to the clinic by her grandmother.  Her mother had a stroke (best we can tell from the grandmothers description) and cannot speak or communicate with others and is bed ridden.  They have no idea who the father is.  The grandma works in the gardens and plants beans and corn.  There are 5 people that live in a 2 rooms home made of rocks and tin.  They do not have running water in their home or a flush toilet, not even an outhouse.

LOVELIE

She was just 3 weeks old when she came to the clinic weighing in at 4 pounds.  She was severely dehydrated and near death when admitted.  After a few fearful days of watching to see if she was still breathing she “woke up” and was wondering when she could start having some milk 🙂  She is still recovering with us and doing well.

OSLET

He is 7 months old and weighs 15 pounds.  He comes from very far away and was referred to us my another clinic that is closer to there home.  Oslet had huge abscesses over many parts of his body.  That had to be drained one at a time and he was put on antibiotics.  He continues to heal and regain his strength.

TALENSON

He is 17 months old and weighs 17 pounds.  His mama and papa are not together.  Talenson was living with his mother and step-father for some time now.   As he become malnourished and then severely malnourished they believed that it was a curse someone was putting on their child.  They did not believe it was something that could be cured by a doctor.  Talenson’s papa heard he was sick and went to see him.  He found him in terrible shape.  He brought him to the clinic and asked us to help any anyway that we could to help his son heal.  He is a farmer and works just about every day from sun up to sun down.  He plants beans and corn in his garden.  He lives is a 2 room home with 3 others that is made of rock and tin.  He does not have running water in his home or a flush toilet.  Telenson’s mother has had 7 children and 4 of those have died.  The father was not sure how they died but knows there was a lot of negligence of the part of the mama.  In the week before he was admitted he had little to eat.  We started him on the F-75 therapeutic milk and after being on that for several days he was graduated to the medika mamba. He is still in critical condition.

I need Thee every hour, most gracious Lord;
No tender voice like Thine can peace afford.

  • Refrain:
    I need Thee, oh, I need Thee;
    Every hour I need Thee;
    Oh, bless me now, my Savior,
    I come to Thee.

I need Thee every hour, stay Thou nearby;
Temptations lose their pow’r when Thou art nigh.

I need Thee every hour, in joy or pain;
Come quickly and abide, or life is vain.

I need Thee every hour; teach me Thy will;
And Thy rich promises in me fulfill.

I need Thee every hour, most Holy One;
Oh, make me Thine indeed, Thou blessed Son.
