13 Days. 13 K’s. 13 THOUSAND feet… Are you in??

The stress brought upon by the Cholera epidemic might make someone want to jump out of a plane.  So that’s just what we’re going to do….

Dealing with the Cholera epidemic has been extremely demanding on RHFH.  When Cholera first hit Haiti, RHFH staff knew that it would be another long-term commitment to the people of Haiti if they began treating Cholera patients.  Decisions were made, the current Cholera house was opened and patients were admitted. Nine months later, numbers are up to the 100s and the stream of new patients is constant.  Cholera is not disappearing and neither are the needs of RHFH.  The greatest need is a more sufficient place to house all the patients which allows for better care, more effective education, more room (one patient per bed for example); and that is designed with the specific needs of Cholera patients in mind.  We have been blessed with the donated house the Cholera patients are in now, but come January 1st we will need to have a new location to house the patients.  RHFH has prayerfully considered the options and we have decided to build a Cholera hospital on the new land where we will continue to treat patients for years to come.  The hospital will effectively house 100 patients and will be designed to fully meet the specific needs of this highly contagious epidemic.  In the unlikely event that Cholera goes away in 3-4 years, the hospital would continue to be used for intensive care clinic patients, surgical patients, recovering patients, and many other needs that arise.

We are well into working on designing the hospital complex and know that the cost will be intimidatingly large. But we have faith God will provide.  We are hoping to jumpstart the project by raising $13,000 in the next 13 days.  If we reach that by August 11th, while Lori is in California on her first vacation days off the year, she and Anna will jump out of a plane and plummet 13,000 feet down to the ground. Well… Anna will push Lori out, and then jump out herself 🙂  SO. Let’s do this:

Donations can be made through PayPal on the link to the right or checks can be sent to the office in Indiana at this address- designate your donation for “Cholera Hospital”:

Great idea. The other day when I was reading the blog, I thought–they need a real space designed as a medical facility. One with running water and drains built into the floors. May God continue to bless you and provide for all your needs.

So is Lori excited about this, or is she praying for $12,999.95 to come in? Have fun Lori, ’cause somehow I have a feeling you are going to have to do this!

Okay, Lori. Knowing how Rambo you are I feel it my duty to contribute generously. I also want Anna to send me details on the jump – I may have to take a road trip to watch! I love the idea of the hospital – I can’t wait to come visit you at ‘Hopital Zach!’
