Special needs for Serette

Serette came to the clinic a few weeks ago.  We found out this week that she is in heart failure.  She is a very sweet young girl.  Her mom has been staying with her since the first day.  They live on the other side of the island and have tired to find help in many different places.  They are currently staying in the medicine storage room and are as happy as can be about this.  The RHFH staff is treating them with love and care and they appreciate that.

      The day she arrived                                                                         currently

Serette’s mom loves her youngest daughter very much.  They live in a country that does not have a lot (or any) options that we know of for heart surgery.  We are currently looking into options in the DR.  In the mean time we are going to begin working on getting mom and daughter passports so they can travel.  This is all IF we can find a place to do surgery.  I have spend the last few weeks with this lovely mother and daughter.  They are a blessing to us and such a joy to have with us here at RHFH.  Dr Jen and Paul have been working closely with her each day to give her medications that we are praying will help her until she can have surgery.

Today Serette’s dad came for a visit.  He is a fisherman.  So his gift to me was of course his catch from the ocean today.

What a blessing this gift was.  Serette’s dad has been working hard as his wife is not able to work as she is caring for Serette.   We have three  needs for this beautiful family.

  1.  dad needs a new boat to fish with.  He old one has several holes in it.  The cost of a new boat for him is $250.00
  2. Cost for medical testing for Serette.  $222.50
  3. Beginning cost of getting BC, ID cards and passports for Serette and her mom $600

We are praying that we are able to find a place in the DR that could do surgery for her. She is a bright girl that is currently in the 7th grade and wants to start school in a few weeks.  If you can help with this need please use the paypal button in the upper right hand corner or send donations to Real Hope for Haiti/P.O. Box 23/Elwood, IN 46036  Include a note or memo letting us know it is for Serette.  questions licia@realhopeforhaiti.org  Thank you so much and God bless.

update:  THE NEED HAS BEEN MET!  THANK YOU!  THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

One of the pastors we work with in NE Haiti has contacts in a hospital in Santiago in the D.R. One of the little girls in his school needed corrective surgery for a life-threatening birth defect in her digestive system and they were able to do the surgery at the hospital in Santiago. If it would help, I can send you the name of the pastor and his contact info.

We are in the process on contacting a hospital right now, but would be thankful for the info as a backup plan if need be. Thank you so much!

If you end up needing another back up yet, I have a doctor friend that spends part of the week working a a clinic in Fond-Parisien and the rest of the week working in Santo Domingo. He has a lot of connections with doctors and hospitals in the DR as well as at the border and could probably even travel over and back with them. It is not uncommon for him to take patients over with him so he is familiar with the process. I can probably put you in contact with him if it would be helpful.
