New Admits

BETCHINA

This little one is 22 days old and weighs 4 pounds.  Her mother died when she was just a few days old.  She was then given to her grandma so that she could care for her.  Grandma is going blind and was not able to give her the care that she needed. Her papa brought her in hopes of finding a place that could care for her for several months.  He feels like once she is walking and bigger that he will be able to find family members that can care for her while he continues to work and provide for his 5 other children.

ROSELIE

She is 19 years old and has been sick for many months.  She is TB positive and stayed at a TB hospital in Port-au-Prince for a few months.  She is in her last month of treatment for TB and only weighs 60 pounds.  We have also found that she is a diabetic and most days her level register “HI” on our machines which is over 600.  We are keeping her here with us for a time to see if we can get her glucose levels under control with insulin.  She is weak and has been sick for a very long time.

DEVENSKY

A friend that spent several weeks with us a few years ago, is now working  full time here in Haiti.  This little boy was treated for cholera at a facility that she works with.  He recovered from cholera and then his caregiver, his aunt, needed to go and care for other family member sick with cholera.  Devensky mother is dead and the dad had not been around since he was a baby.    He is believed to be between 3 and 4 years old and weighs 19 pounds.  He was very weak and could not even sit up when he was admitted.  He was also full of worms. He is currently on the medika mamba program.

 JN ODA

 This sweet little guy arrived last week.  It just happened that Lori and I were outside the gate together and saw them arrive on a moto.  They had been traveling for hours to arrive at the clinic.  His mama was 8 months pregnant and his father came as well.  So that made 3 adult, one 8 months pregnant, with Jn Oda smashed in the middle for a crowded ride.  He has been sick for several weeks.

This is his 4th time with kwashiorkor.  His parents were not sure what was causing him to become so swollen.  The nurses spent a lot of time educationing the parents and explaining what food are good to feed him.  He has 3 living siblings at home and 2 that have died.  He is 10 years old and weighs 40 pounds.

 LITTLE ONES

Last week Lori was in the dressing room with a patient.  A nurse came and said she had a lady in labor that was only about 7 1/2 months along.   I went to check on her and discovered that she was in fact just about ready to have the baby.  I ran and yelled for Lori to come quickly.  Shortly after she delivered a little baby girl.  The baby came out inside the sack fully intact along with the placenta and cord right behind it.  We quickly burst the sac thinking that the little baby was dead, but to our joy the little girl blinked her eyes.  With a little work her gray colored skin began to turn pink.  She was admitted into MediShare the next day into their NICU ward.

This little gal was sent to us from our good friend, Anita.  Anita and her husband spent a day in Port trying to get this little 1 pound 8 ounce baby admitted into a hospital with no success.  We kept them over night and God’s Littlest Angels accepted her into their program the next day.

 ELINA

She is 2 years old and weighs 26 pounds.  She was burned last week with hot water being split on her.  Her family lives several hours away so she is staying in the RC during her healing process.

Psalm 57:8-10(NIV)

Awake, my soul!
    Awake, harp and lyre!
    I will awaken the dawn.

I will praise you, Lord, among the nations;
    I will sing of you among the peoples.
10 For great is your love, reaching to the heavens;
    your faithfulness reaches to the skies.
